POID in cooperation with Vitsche Berlin will present a study of Russian liberal media and book “Deconstructors of truth”

On July 25, at 6.30 p.m., the Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy in cooperation with Vitsche Berlin will present a study of Russian liberal media and book “Deconstructors of truth”. The authors are Natalia Steblyna and Iryna Avramenko.

“The Fog of War: How Russian opposition media cover Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.”

What is the modern Russian liberal media space? Is it Kremlin propaganda for those who do not like Putin and the war? Or is it high-quality independent journalism? Or is it something in between? Ukrainian media analysts Natalia Steblyna and Iryna Avramenko will present the results of a study by the Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy, which analyzes various cases:

  • Coverage of Russian war crimes (explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, attacks on civilian objects in Ukraine);
  • The life of Ukrainians under Russian occupation;
  • Stories about Russian soldiers and “Ukrainian Nazis”.

Prof. Dr. Natalia Steblyna – Media Analyst at the Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy, Visiting Professor at the KIU at Viadrina University, Professor of Journalism and Social Communications at Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.

Iryna Avramenko – Media expert in Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy. Assistant at the Department of Journalism at the University of Customs and Finance, media trainer, PhD student at Zaporizhzhia National University.
